An assessment of any Service User is initially done by a Social Worker from the local Council. This assessment will identify your care needs a risk assessment will also be undertaken at this time. When we are asked to pick up a care or support package, the Social Worker provides MCJA with a copy of his/her assessment document and initial care plan.
An Assessor from MCJA will come out to the service users home, ideally before the service commences, or if this is not possible, within 48 hours of the care package commencing. The assessor will complete a risk assessment and a care plan. A copy of the care plan and risk assessment will be left in the service users home, together with a copy of our Service Users Guide, a 'Have your say' Leaflet and a Daily Report book. The latter will be completed by the care worker at the end of each visit, detailing the care provided. Users will be allocated approximate times when the care will be provided. Because of the nature of the service, times can only be approximate as a carer may be delayed on an earlier call. Were call times are critical - for example, for medication prompt or to assist a user get ready for day care, every effort will be made to ensure that those calls are on time. MCJA operates a call logging system that enables us to monitor each visit being made by our carers. Using a freephone number, the carer telephones our head office at the start and end of each visit. The timing of those calls is recorded on our computer. If a carer fails to register their arrival the computer generates an alert and staff in our office will make enquiries to ensure that the staff member and service user concerned are safe. Should a Service User’s care needs change dramatically; we will again complete a service review. Formal reviews are held every six month when you have a chance to meet our review staff. Please use this opportunity to raise with them any issues / concerns or indeed compliments that you may wish to make about the service that you receive. In addition we also carry out telephone reviews twice a year - these again can be used to raise any issues. All of our care workers are subject to reference checks, including Criminal Record Bureau ( CRB). Staff also receive training and supervision so that they are appropriately skilled to provide the care / support required. The role of a care / support worker is an extremely valuable one and requires dedication and commitment. Care is about warmth, knowledge, understanding and skill to help and assist another person. We expect our staff to demonstrate these qualities. In many instances the care worker will be the only person to visit the service users on that particular day.
