Our Dementia Team endeavour to meet the needs of their clients and their aspirational goals

MCJA have a dedicated Dementia Team, who have each client’s quality of life at the centre of their work and provide:

  • Regular support and a friendly face
  • Familiar person in a familiar environment
  • Regular patterns of support
  • Qualified and professional dementia care staff 
  • Providing staff who are competent in creative activities
  • Create a positive verbal interaction
  • Provide a stimulating quality intervention

We ensure that our group of Dementia Specialists have specific dementia training in all areas of dementia care, to enhance the general well-being of each service user.

 

Our training activities are ongoing and frequently refreshed, in accordance to current specialist guidelines. The service is guided by a Dementia Manager and the ongoing dementia training supervised by our Trainer. Topics include memory book, diary training, engagement and communication, and engaging with activities to stimulate the mind.

We ensure that our group of 12 dementia specialist care staff have specific dementia training in all areas of dementia care to enhance the general wellbeing of the service user.

Topics include memory book diary training engagement and communication and engaging with activities to stimulate the mind.

Better communication

Because of the way each care visit is designed, there will be frequent interventions that will enhance communication in terms of length of visit and content of topics, which will result in a more productive and meaningful visit.

MCJA recognise that communication between the team and clients is of paramount importance. Therefore, we have created and extended visiting plans to accommodate the personal needs through longer periods of communication, listening and talking.

The specialist Dementia Team are trained to understand dementia issues and meet needs to provide domiciliary care in a thoughtful and constructive way. We have introduced questionnaires and designed a plan, following visits to the client’s home, to find out what they would like us to provide. We revisit this questionnaire to update and measure the value progress and changes. This runs alongside their regular care plan and compliments any special needs required.

Better access and interaction within the service user’s community

We ensure that our client groups have access and the opportunity to take part in their local community activities. Through our research and questionnaire activity, and our network of support partners, we know that our clients may   wish to attend community centres and activities that would enhance their well-being and combat isolation and loneliness that often occurs.

Therefore, we ensure our specialist Dementia Team are able to signpost, and wherever possible enable, clients to engage with local service providers, to create a dialogue with local dementia activity groups and ensure that our clients know what is available to gain access to those activities and services.
